by Elizabeth Palmer Starnes

Elizabeth Palmer Starnes and Marita Lynn

This weekend, the third annual Summit Wine and Food Festival took place at the Grand Hotel in Summit, which hosted dozens of impressive chefs, sommeliers, and guest speakers.

On Friday night, the festival kicked off with the Gala Tasting, where restaurants, chefs, and winemakers set up tables to showcase their signature dishes and most celebrated wines. A Summer Restaurant Recap

by Melody Kettle

It’s been a very busy summer in the Montclair restaurant scene.  So here’s a quick wrap up of the events!

Late spring, had a lot of interesting foodie news concerning Church Street – specifically what was happening at 12 Church Street.  First, Market, the picket fenced, organic restaurant tried to reinvent itself as The Honest Dog.  About two weeks after the opening, the honest dog “had run off” and Cheryl and Greg Spinelli stepped in to open the space as a tapas restaurant, creatively named, Tapastry, in the space.

In May, Cilantro, a new Mexican restaurant opened at 537 Bloomfield Avenue opened.

June was relatively slow on the restaurant news front and saw only the closing of Sesame, a Chinese restaurant,  on Bloomfield Avenue.

Jump to:  Leone's Heat Index Poll and Comments!

Our house has been pretty full for the past week.  In addition to Mr. Hot, myself, and our two children, ages 6 and 4, my husband's son from a previous marriage, and his two children, ages 3 and 2 have been staying with us. If you are attempting to figure out the genealogical chart, yes, I am "Grandma Melody!" (And I like it!)

So on Sunday we decided to all go out for lunch.  There were two requirements, the restaurant must be a BYO, and, of course, it must be kid-friendly.   I perused the HFTK Heat Index, and decided that  Leone's would be a safe bet.  We loaded up into two cars and headed out.  As we drove down South Park Street, the plans abruptly changed when Mr. Hot, (already PO'ed to not find parking) noticed white table cloths on the tables through the Leone's window.

"No! This is not for kids."
