Last night, Jerry Maher and his partner, Kerri-Ann Sweeten, hosted a preview walkthrough of their new restaurant, HAVEN Riverfront Restaurant & Bar. The waterfront restaurant will open today, October 9, in the new Edgewater Harbor development.
Executive Chef Peter Larsen, a graduate of the Royal Culinary Academy of Copenhagen, Denmark, along with Haven's impeccable service staff, treated us to a delicious evening that showcased Haven's "Modern New American cuisine with classic roots." We enjoyed starters like, chicken taco spring rolls with queso fresco, black beans, and bacon jam; pan seared sea scallops with chorizo, potato foam and salsa verde; and pretzel-crusted fried calamari w/mustard-scallion remoulade. This was followed by entrees like braised Creekstone Farm short ribs w/marinated chanterelles, miso-glazed Chilean Sea Bass w/edamame purée, pearl onions & yuzu white chocolate sauce; and spice crusted filet mignon with a potato gratin, and a baby carrot-turnip-pearl onion ragout.
Among the most impressive desserts were a masterful Meyer Lemon panna cotta with marinated blueberries and white chocolate sorbet, as well as a salted caramel ice cream sundae with malt foam, chocolate granola, peanuts, and butterscotch.
In addition to cuisine and fine service, the dining room at Haven frames unobstructed and inspiring views of the Manhattan skyline. In the chic lounge area, clever and engaging "wink" portraits are suspended above the beautifully lit bar.
Jerry Maher and Sweeten also own Hoboken waterfront landmark 3Forty Grill. Chef Larsen held the positions of Executive Chef at The Goodwin (which he opened) and Artisanal (both in Manhattan). Prior to that, Peter was Chef at Town (also in Manhattan) and Nobu Las Vegas.
HAVEN will be open 7 days a week for Dinner; Lunch and Brunch to follow soon after opening.
