Bloggable knowledge was exchanged last at night at "Fuzzy" Furlong Fieldhouse where the Adult School of Montclair hosted a panel entitled, "So You Want To Be A Food & Wine Blogger."
The discussion was moderated by Karen Diaz-Schloss of DSC Communications. Panelists included Peter Conway of Mano a Vino, Rosalie Saferstein of Table Hoping With Rosie, Deb Smith of Jersey Bites, Sharla Blanz of Off The Vine, Sue Guerra from Gary's Wine & Marketplace, and myself.
We began with a discussion of the differences between being an "indie" blogger, such as HFTK, Mano a Vino, and Jersey Bites, and blogging for larger media outlets like NJ Monthly or North Jersey Media Group. We also discussed marketing strategies, comment moderating, web platforms, google, disclaimers, and even money. The discussion grew most lively when we traded stories about our biggest blogsphere mistakes - and I've made more than one.
Although there was no food or wine at the event, an educational and entertaining time was had by all - I even took home a few tips from my fellow foodie bloggers. And afterwards, in proper fashion, we went out for food and wine!
