Samba Brings Brazilian to Montclair

by Melody Kettle

Brazilian fare has come to Montclair! After months of preparation, Samba Montclair, hosted it’s soft opening last night.  Since opening the space at 7 Park St., exactly one year ago, as Park St. Gourmet, owner, 30-year-old, Ilson Goncalves, who trained with the acclaimed Zod Arifai, has developed a loyal following, some of which came out last night as “followers” of Ilson.

Samba seamlessly blends the old with the new, resulting in a warm, intimate, amd elegantly simplistic atmosphere.   Many of the windows and cabinets are reclaimed, the copper and silver antiques decorate the walls and counters, and most notably, the tables are set with cloth napkins topped with mixed-and-matched silver plated antique flatware. Charming!

So what relevance does this have to Blu, Next Door, and Montclair? Zod Arifai, the self-taught, “Wizard of Zod,” and chef/owner of Blu and Next Door will be the new executive chef and partner at daryl.

Koreander is Coming

by Melody Kettle

Bubble tea, anyone? From the looks of things at 128 Watchung Avenue, it appears that QBA has not found a business partner.  Posters in the windows at the ever evolving corner restaurant spot are heralding the arrival of Koreander Fusion Cafe.

In other local restaurant news, the reopening Montclair Char-Broil appears to be imminent, Five Guys vanished beneath a fog of soap, and work continues to go on at Cars and the new Cuban place on Valley Road.
