Escape, Innovative Farm Dining, Opens in Montclair

A rectangular blackboard hangs on an exposed brick wall in the dining room of Escape.  It's a bill of fare, of sorts; a white chalk roster of New Jersey farmers and artisans from which chef and owner, Bryan Gregg, sources proteins and produce. Gregg is source-centric. 

There's a gastronomic school of thought that says, "farm-to-table isn’t a trend - it’s the way it should be," and therefore food writers shouldn't be impressed with a chef  just because he uses farm fresh ingredients and local purveyors.

Ilson Goncalves, owner of Samba Montclair, has announced that as of January 1, 2013, Samba Montclair will no longer be serving breakfast. The good news is that Samba will be adding dinner service on Sundays!

The updated hours will be:

Orange Squirrel Vincent Price Cookbook Dinner on Sunday, Nov. 4

UPDATE: The Orange Squirrel Restaurant in Bloomfield, NJ, will pay homage to Vincent Price's legacy on Sunday, November 4, at 5 pm. 

 

Owner/Chef Francesco Palmieri resurrects a selection of frighteningly amazing dishes from A Treasury of Great Recipes by Vincent & Mary Price. Many of the restaurants referenced in the book have long since vanished, but Chef Palmieri has conjured an exclusive dinner where he will recreate six legendary dishes from these great restaurants of the world in his own style, paired with wines for $130 per person or $95 without wine.*
