Tutti Vous: It's All About Love

by Melody Kettle in ,

“It’s all about love,” says Michael Mancino, of his restaurant, Tutti Vous.

Mancino, a Paterson native, and graduate of Montclair State University, has an extensive background in photography, but it was his passion for cooking that led him to open Tutti Vous, located at 348 Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair.

Tutti Vous is a funky, little restaurant, with bright, red walls, black chairs, white tablecloths, and a decidedly artsy slant.  All the photographs on the walls were taken by Michael; an eclectic mix of photos from Vermont, Hawaii, New York, and Yankee Stadium, all hang boldly in black frames against the red walls.

The name of the restaurant is a bit of cultural hybrid.  Tutti is Italian for “all” and vous is French for “you.”   Michael explained that the initial chef at Tutti Vous was Haitian, of French descent.  Michael is Italian, so they joined the cultures in the name and voila! Tutti Vous!

Tutti Vous serves familiar Italian inspired fare.  The menu features salads like Caprese  with fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, tomatoes, and olives at $10, and another roasted beet salad with arugula and Maytag Blue Cheese with raspberry dressing priced at $10.

I spent some time in the kitchen at Tutti Vous with Michael who cooked up his signature appetizer - double lump crab cakes with a spicy lemon aioli and field greens. The appetizer is full of large chunks of crabmeat, and is plenty for two people share, priced at only $12.

The prices of the pasta dishes are comparatively high for Montclair restaurants, priced from $19 to $23.   But the pricing of the proteins are fair, featuring seared filet mignon with a reduced wine sauce or Maytag Blue Cheese and mushroom sauce, with two sides, at $25. Tutti Vous is a BYOB.

On Saturday nights beginning in October, Tutti Vous will be hosting talent showcases, from 9 – 11 pm.  There is no extra cover. All artists, magicians, musicians, and persons of particular talent are welcome!
