BURG: Burgers + Taps Opens in Newark's Military Park

The Korean

The moment downtown Newark has been waiting for!  BURG, the hip, casual, burger-centric restaurant from celebrated Chef/Restaurateur Chris Siversen of Maritime Parc fame, opened its doors today, providing the finishing touch on the park's stunning multi-million dollar revitalization, courtesy of Biederman Redevelopment Ventures.

"There's been so much buzz about BURG," says Siversen, "we're thrilled to finally announce, 'We're open -- come grab a burger and a beer!'"

This the first fast-casual concept from the team of chef/owner Chris Siversen and restaurateur Marc Haskell of Maritime Parc in Jersey City's Liberty State Park, named four years in a row to NJ Monthly's "25 Best Restaurants" list. Maritime Parc's burgers were named the No. 1 Best Thing to Eat in Jersey City Right Now by The Village Voice and recognized as a top burger deal in The New York Post in 2014

The menu is built around hand-crafted beef, chicken, lamb and seafood burgers with gourmet touches at affordable prices ($8-$15). The Cowboy Burger, a signature DeBragga beef patty topped w/roast beef, BBQ sauce grilled onions + lettuce, promises to be a crowd favorite, along with tempting combos such as The Greek Lamb Burger (olive hummus, feta, tzatziki) and The Korean Burger (fried egg, cucumber-scallion slaw, kimchi relish).

But BURG is cooking up more than great burgers. Prepare yourself for indulgences like Double Decker Grilled Cheese, Disco Fries and Fried Pickles. There's lighter fare as well: Kale Caesar and Arugula Salad w/Blue Cheese, Poached Pears, Spiced Walnuts & Shallot Vinaigrette. For dessert, no one will want to leave without a Bag O Doughnuts (Cinnamon Sugar, Vanilla Powder, Mocha Dust).

Piggy Bites

BURG is open for lunch and dinner for those who work, live and play in Newark, and is also the place to grab a drink before the show or game at nearby NJPAC or the PruCenter. Come in for Happy Hour (daily 4-7pm) to enjoy $4 beers and $6 wines. Or try their fun, frozen take on an Old Fashioned, The Iceburg ($9).

Iceburg

Siversen will source regional craft beer (River Horse Hipp-O-Lantern Imperial Pumpkin Ale and Yards Love Stout), as well as food from notable NJ purveyors Radicle Farms, Zone 7, Valley Shepherd and DeBragga, New York's Butcher®. Wine will be on tap and sustainable via Gotham Project (and 8 rotating taps).

Inside a Bag O Doughnuts

BURG's modern comfort-style interior is designed by Manhattan-based Stephanie Goto, creator of Maritime Parc's award-winning look, and features elements of a vintage diner. Burger lovers may walk up to the counter and place their orders to go, or sit and eat at one of 40 seats inside. Additional outdoor seating overlooking the gardens will open in Spring 2016. 90% of the BURG staff are Newark residents.
