Grandma's Recipe Box: #5 Rugelach

When I was growing up with my grandparents, there was always dessert on the counter.  Always!

My grandmother, who has always been a prolific baker, is Czech, which means she can do a lot more than Strufoli, Pizzele, and Tiramisu.  From Baklava to Krusciki, and Meringues, to this one, Rugelach, Grandma has baked it all.

As the old wooden recipe box has revealed,  Grandma used several different Rugelach recipes.  I'm not sure which one she uses, but here's the typed text on the index card.

Ingredients:

1 Cup margarine

8 oz. cream cheese (beat smooth)

4 Cups flour

1 Cup sour cream

1 Cup sugar

1/2 Cup chopped nuts

1/2 Cup Raisins

2 tsp. cinnamon

Beat margarine and cream cheese until smooth.  Gradually add flour and sour cream.  Cover and chill overnight.

Mix sugar, raisins, nuts, and cinnamon.

Divide dough into 6 balls.  Use floured board.  Roll each ball into a 9 inch circle.  Cut each circle into 10 wedges.  Place heaping teaspoon of sugar mixture in each center.  Reall each wedge from the widest end in.

Place on greased baking sheet and bake at 400 degrees, for 25 minutes, or until brown.
